How it works
From "we found something" to money in your account
You don't chase anyone. We do the research, the paperwork and the follow-up, and keep you posted the whole way.
1. We search state records
We look through state unclaimed property lists for you, your business, and any former names or addresses. When we reach out, it's because we already found something listed under your name.
2. We tell you what we found
Which state is holding it, what kind of property it is, and roughly how much. You can check it yourself on the state's official site. No pressure, and nothing to pay.
3. You sign one simple agreement
A short written agreement that names the property, the amount and our fee, using the state's own form where one exists. Nothing moves forward without your OK.
4. We build and file the claim
We gather the proof the state needs, including merger, name-change and estate documents, fill in the claim, and submit it. We answer the state's follow-up questions for you.
5. The state pays you directly
The payment goes straight to you. Our fee is due only after you've been paid, and only what the agreement says.
What we'll usually need
We tell you exactly what your claim needs. Most claims are some mix of these:
- The signed agreement and the state's claim form
- A photo ID for the person signing
- A W-9 for a business claim
- Records that link you to the name and address on file
- For a merged or renamed company, the filings that show the change
- For an estate, the documents that show who the heirs are
How long does it take?
It depends on the state and the claim. States can take a few weeks to several months to review a complete claim, and estate or company-history claims take longer than simple ones. We track it and update you at each stage.
Good to know: in some states, a finder agreement is only allowed after the money has been with the state for a set time, often 24 months. If your money is newer than that, we'll tell you, and point you to the state's own claim process.
Think the state may be holding money for you?
Send us your name or business name, plus any former names. A real person will look and tell you what we find. There is no cost to ask.
