FAQ

Questions, answered

Straight answers to what people ask us most.

Is this a scam?

A fair question. We never ask for money upfront, never ask for bank or account logins, and the state pays you directly, not us. Before you sign, we tell you exactly what the property is, which state holds it and the amount, so you can look it up on that state's official unclaimed property site.

Can I do this myself?

Yes. Every state has its own process, and owners can always file a claim directly with the state for free. Many people choose us because the research, the documents and the back-and-forth with the state take time they'd rather spend elsewhere, and because there's no fee unless the claim is paid.

What does it cost?

Nothing upfront. Our fee is a share of what the state actually pays you, agreed in writing before we start, and never above your state's legal limit. If the state doesn't pay, you owe nothing. See our Fees page for each state's limit.

How did you find me?

States publish lists of unclaimed property and the names it's held under. We search those public records and reach out when we find a match for you, your business, or a family member.

Who pays me, you or the state?

The state pays you directly. We're paid our agreed fee only after you've received your money.

How long does it take?

It depends on the state and the claim. Reviews can take a few weeks to several months, and estate or company-history claims take longer than simple ones. We track your claim and update you at each stage.

What will you need from me?

Usually the signed agreement, the state's claim form, a photo ID for the signer, and records that link you to the name and address on file. For a business, a W-9. For a merged or renamed company or an estate, the documents that show the change or the heirs. We tell you exactly what your claim needs.

Which states do you work in?

We currently file claims in Wisconsin, Alaska, Nevada, New York, Colorado, New Jersey and Wyoming, each under that state's own rules. Live somewhere else? Contact us and we'll check what's possible.

Is my information safe?

We use your information only to work on your claim, share it only with the state handling it, and never sell it. See our Privacy policy.
